Complacency In Addiction...

We were so proud of ourselves. Attending meetings, finding new play areas and play mates. We found fun hobbies to try, visited new places, made new friends... Sure we had our moments when we thought about "getting high", but we were in a place where we didn't want to disappoint OURSELVES anymore; or those around us. Did we have a PERFECT recovery? No, but we began to hold ourselves accountable and didn't dwell on the past. We practiced what we had learned to be able to deal with "life on life's terms". We had the tools to maintain our own recovery. We practiced the HOW- Honesty, Open-Mindedness, and Willingness. We still had good and bad days, but we were better prepared to handle the bad days and we weren't alone. It was a great feeling, kind of it's own "high". We were in control of ourselves.
